SEM Specimen Mounts & Stubs
SEM stubs hold the specimen and conduct charge away from it. SPI supplies the full range of standard geometries — cylindrical, pin-type, angled, threaded and pure carbon — along with planchets for EDS and WDS work and specialised holders.

Overview
Every SEM specimen has to be mounted on something, and the choice of stub is not incidental: it sets how the specimen sits relative to the detectors, and it carries the charge away that would otherwise build up under the beam. Stage designs differ between manufacturers, hence the range of geometries — cylindrical stubs for JEOL-pattern stages, pin-type for others, angled stubs for viewing a surface at a fixed tilt, threaded stubs where the specimen must be held securely. Material matters for analytical work: pure carbon and pyrolytic graphite mounts contribute no spurious X-ray peaks, which is why EDS and WDS planchets are made from them or from beryllium. SPI also supplies specialised holders, work stations for specimen preparation, and forensic GSR sampler kits.

Models

Cylindrical SEM Mounts
Mounts are produced in three surface finishes and a range of diameters to match the specimen-stage clips used on different SEM makes and models.

Pin-Type SEM Mounts
Pin-type SEM mounts combine a flat specimen table with an integral cylindrical mounting pin that presses into a matching socket on the SEM specimen stage.

Angled SEM Mounts (30°/45°)
A pure-carbon 30° version and a threaded, 45°-angled male version are also available for specialized stage configurations.

Threaded SEM Mounts
Threaded mounts are also combined with the 45° angled geometry in one catalogue item for tilted, screw-mounted viewing.

Pure Carbon SEM Mounts
SPI Supplies provides a published article statement describing the composition of these carbon mounts for users who need documentation for their analytical records.

Specialty Holders & Mount Work Stations
Mount work stations provide a benchtop tray that holds a set number of round and pin-type mounts during handling and storage.

Planchets (Beryllium, Diamond & Pyrolytic Graphite)
Beryllium, diamond and pyrolytic graphite planchets for EDS and WDS, adding no spurious peaks and made to be cleaned and reused.

Forensic Gunshot Residue (GSR) Sampler Kits
Recovered residue amount depends on the firearm type, caliber, ammunition, and environmental conditions at the time of discharge.
