Pure Carbon SEM Mounts

Pure carbon SEM mounts are machined from solid graphite rather than aluminum, giving a low-background, non-metallic substrate for specimens that must not be contaminated by, or confused with, an aluminum x-ray signal during EDS analysis.

SPI Supplies Pure Carbon SEM Mounts — SEM Specimen Mounts & Stubs

Manufacturer: SPI Supplies — USA

Overview

Pure carbon SEM mounts are machined from solid graphite rather than aluminum, giving a low-background, non-metallic substrate for specimens that must not be contaminated by, or confused with, an aluminum x-ray signal during EDS analysis. They are produced in the same cylindrical, pin-type, angled, and threaded geometries as the aluminum line, so the same range of table diameters and pin dimensions apply. Two carbon surface finishes are offered, Standard and Ultra-Smooth, with the latter intended for higher-resolution imaging or particle work where surface texture could interfere with the specimen. SPI Supplies provides a published article statement describing the composition of these carbon mounts for users who need documentation for their analytical records.

Available Geometries

Carbon mounts are available as cylindrical stubs, pin-type mounts, 30° angled mounts, and threaded-female mounts, mirroring the shapes offered in aluminum. Pin-type carbon mounts use a 14.3 mm table with a 6.4 mm diameter, 16 mm long pin.

Documentation

An article statement document is provided on the product page covering the carbon mount material, useful for laboratories that need to document specimen substrate composition for their analytical procedures.
