Overview
These models rapidly and automatically carry out the pour and cloud point test procedures prescribed in ASTM D97, ASTM D2500, and JIS K2269. The apparatus consists of a cooling unit, which incorporates a cooling bath and two refrigerators, and a measuring unit built around a compact test bath of special metal construction; for pour point measurement, the test bath itself tilts and moves back and forth. Unlike conventional pour point methods that rely on torque detection, these testers assess the sample without disturbing its surface, so they can detect delicate pour point shifts caused by continuous viscosity change or by the addition of a pour-point-depressant. For cloud point detection, the instrument combines a photo-sensor with glass-fiber light guides to continuously monitor the temperature at which wax first becomes visible at the bottom of the sample-filled test tube. The RPC-301CML to RPC-303CML configurations provide one, two, or three test positions, while four- and six-position versions (RPC-304CML and RPC-306CML) are also available for higher-throughput laboratories.
Consecutive Pour and Cloud Point Measurement
The tester performs cloud point measurement first and then continues directly into pour point measurement on the same sample when the continuous PP/CP sensor is fitted. Pre-test preparation at 45°C and a two-stage temperature control system, combining stepped and flexible cooling, allow the full test sequence to run automatically without operator intervention.
Photo-electric Detection System
Sample surface detection is performed electronically by a photo-sensor in the same way a technician would visually judge the surface, and the system is sensitive enough to register even a small volume of fluid. Cloud point is detected through glass-fiber light guides positioned at the base of the test tube, which continuously track the onset of wax haze.
