Existent Gum Testing Apparatus: REG-05 / REG-05S (5 Units)

The REG-05 and REG-05S determine existent gum in motor gasoline and aviation fuel by evaporating a measured sample under a controlled flow of heated air or superheated steam and weighing the residue left behind, in accordance with ASTM D381, IP 131, ISO 6246 and JIS K2261.

Overview

The REG-05 and REG-05S determine existent gum in motor gasoline and aviation fuel by evaporating a measured sample under a controlled flow of heated air or superheated steam and weighing the residue left behind, in accordance with ASTM D381, IP 131, ISO 6246 and JIS K2261. Both models are built as compact, floor-standing vertical units that hold five sample beakers together, keeping the footprint far smaller than conventional testers. A built-in fume hood needs only to be connected to an external exhaust line, simplifying installation. The REG-05S variant adds an automatic water supply function for the steam-jet evaporation test, reducing operator involvement during long test runs.

Dual Evaporation Modes

The apparatus supports both air-jet evaporation, typically run at 160°C to 165°C, and steam-jet evaporation, typically run at 232°C to 248°C, covering the full range of existent gum test procedures. Test temperature and evaporation time are controlled digitally by PID controllers with SSR switching for stable, repeatable results.

Steam Generation System

A stainless steel pressure vessel with a 6 kW pipe heater generates the superheated steam used for steam-jet testing, with the rate of generation adjustable through voltage control. Water for the steam generator is supplied and shut off automatically, and safety devices include an over-pressure relief valve and a no-load heating cutout.

Space-Saving, Safety-Focused Design

Mounted on locking casters, the unit occupies only about 520 mm by 710 mm of floor space despite its 1,700 mm height. An integrated draft hood and a 30 mA earth-leakage circuit breaker protect the operator during evaporation testing.
