Single-Cell Droplet Generator: DNBelab C-TaiM 4
The DNBelab C-TaiM 4 is a compact, portable single-cell droplet generator that processes 1 to 4 samples per run using precision, pressure-driven microfluidic technology.

Manufacturer: MGI — Latvia
Overview
The DNBelab C-TaiM 4 is a compact, portable single-cell droplet generator that processes 1 to 4 samples per run using precision, pressure-driven microfluidic technology. Engineered with MGI's dual-bead capture system and integrated computing modules, it enables rapid and reliable encapsulation of cells or nuclei for downstream 3' RNA and ATAC sequencing library preparation. Droplet generation is completed in as little as 6 to 9 minutes per run, and the system accommodates 5,000 to 30,000 input cells per run with high recovery rates. It is engineered to maintain stable performance in environments up to 2.5 km altitude, making it suitable for both laboratory and field settings. The instrument is compatible with downstream sequencing on MGI's DNBSEQ series of sequencers.
Microfluidic Droplet Generation Principle
The DNBelab C-TaiM 4 uses precision negative-pressure-driven microfluidic oil-encapsulated water droplet generation to isolate single cells or nuclei into droplets. This dual-bead capture system ensures accurate cell encapsulation and labeling prior to library construction. The workflow supports both single-cell 3' RNA and ATAC-seq applications on the same instrument.
Throughput and Sample Capacity
Each run can process 1 to 4 samples independently using dedicated microfluidic channels. The system accommodates 2,000 to 20,000 recoverable cells for 3' RNA workflows and 3,000 to 15,000 nuclei for ATAC workflows, with input ranging from 5,000 to 30,000 cells or nuclei per run.
Performance and Accuracy
Droplet generation is completed in 6 minutes for ATAC and 9 minutes for 3' RNA workflows. The multiplet rate is as low as 0.4% per 1,000 cells, and 3' RNA libraries typically detect more than 2,000 genes per cell in PBMC samples, while ATAC libraries yield 10,000 or more fragments per mouse brain nucleus.
Sample Compatibility
The instrument supports a broad range of sample types, including cells, nuclei, protoplasts, and PBMCs, with cell viability or nuclear integrity above 80%. The maximum compatible cell diameter is less than 60 µm.
Field-Ready Design
Powered by precision, pressure-driven droplet microfluidics, the TaiM 4 maintains stable performance in environments up to 2.5 km in altitude. Its compact footprint of 290 mm × 210 mm × 230 mm and weight of 5,000 g make it easy to deploy in space-constrained or mobile laboratory settings. All MGI sequencing platforms, including compatible downstream sequencers, can operate as standalone systems without network connection, safeguarding data security.
