Overview
Calibrated microspheres provide NIST-traceable size standards usable across virtually any microscope type, including SEM, TEM, light microscopy, confocal, and SPM. The range covers four material and size families: polystyrene latex spheres in aqueous suspension for the sub-micron range, polystyrene DVB spheres in suspension for the mid-micron range, and dry-powder borosilicate and soda-lime glass spheres for the larger micron-to-millimeter range. Because they are true spheres of certified diameter, they let a lab verify magnification and dimensional accuracy directly against a known geometric size rather than a printed scale.
Suspension Microspheres
Polystyrene latex spheres (0.11 to 1.10 µm) and polystyrene DVB spheres (5 to 20 µm) are supplied in aqueous dropper-tipped vials. These cover the sub-micron to mid-micron calibration range most relevant to SEM and light microscopy.
Dry Powder Glass Microspheres
Borosilicate glass (2 to 20 µm) and soda-lime glass (30 to 2000 µm) spheres are supplied as dry powder, covering the largest calibration range in the family. These are used where coarser dimensional calibration is required.
