Tuned Damped Upgradable SmartTable® Optical Table Tops

Overview

SmartTable® upgradeable optical tables feature Newport's patented precision tuned mechanical dampers, delivering the same performance level as the popular RS2000 tables while providing solid damping for applications such as microscopy and spectroscopy. These ST-UT2 Series tables include two precision tuned dampers and can be field-upgraded to SST SmartTable HD active damping performance levels using an upgrade kit. Broadband damping is provided by a 4.8 mm thick table skin, a constrained-layer core that attenuates broadband vibration, a damped working surface that eliminates skin resonance, and a composite edge finish that eliminates sidewall resonance. The tables require S-2000A isolators or rigid LabLegs and use a honeycomb core for a lighter, stiffer table with better dynamic rigidity.

Active, Tuned, and Broadband Damping Performance

ST-UT2 Series upgradable SmartTable optical table tops include two precision tuned dampers that selectively eliminate two fundamental structural table modes and their entire harmonics. Using the upgrade kit, two IQ active dampers can be added to address medium-frequency resonances by sensing vibrations and driving shakers at the opposite phase to cancel them out, with a compliance curve showing the improved performance once upgraded to active damping.
