Manufacturer: Newport — USA

Overview

Oriel Sol3A solar simulators use a single lamp design to meet Class A requirements for all three performance criteria without compromising their 1 SUN output power. Sol3A solar simulators are certified to Class AAA for IEC 60904-9 Edition 2 (2007), JIS 8904-9 (2017), and ASTM E927-10 (2015) standards, using an ozone-free xenon short arc lamp. A variable attenuator allows output from 0.1 to 1.0 SUN, and output beam sizes range from 2 × 2 in. up to 12 × 12 in.

Class A Spectral Match

Spectral match is indicated by the first letter in a solar simulator's class rating, based on the percentage of integrated light intensity across six spectral ranges. All Sol3A models installed with the AM 1.5G spectral correction filter easily meet IEC, JIS, and ASTM Class A requirements.

Class A Spatial Uniformity of Irradiance

The irradiance uniformity over the working area is indicated by the second letter in the class rating, and is the most difficult requirement to achieve and maintain, with hot spots leading to significant errors in measured cell efficiency. The Class A spatial uniformity standard has a stringent requirement of less than or equal to 2%.

Class A Temporal Stability

Temporal stability requires that output light remain stable over time so that lamp fluctuations do not distort measured solar cell efficiency, and Newport's Sol3A simulators easily meet IEC, ASTM, and JIS temporal stability requirements.

Integrated Partial Sun Attenuator and Shutter

A variable aperture feature provides user selectable partial sun illumination from 0.1 to 1.0 SUN, and a rugged single-blade shutter rated for over 1 million cycles is included, controllable via contact closure, logic level input, or push-button switch.
