Automatic Softening Point Testers
The ring-and-ball softening point measures the temperature at which a bituminous or resinous material becomes soft enough to deform under a standard steel ball — a fundamental grading property for asphalt and roofing materials.

Overview
Asphalt, bitumen and resins have no sharp melting point; they soften gradually over a range, so the industry defines a reference temperature by a standard test. In the ring-and-ball method a sample is cast in a brass ring, loaded with a steel ball and heated in a bath at a controlled rate until the softening material deforms far enough to touch a lower plate. RIGO's automatic testers detect that contact optically and record the temperature, running two or four rings at once to JIS K2207 and ASTM D36.

Automatic Softening Point Tester: RSP-202 / RSP-204
The RSP-202/RSP-204 automates the ring-and-ball softening point test described in JIS K2207 and ASTM D36, and is used for asphalt (bitumen), resins.
