Manufacturer: SPECTRO — Germany

Overview

The SPECTROGREEN MS is SPECTRO's compact quadrupole ICP mass spectrometer for high-productivity routine trace-level elemental analysis. Engineered to be better, it delivers the sensitivity, stability, dynamic range, matrix compatibility, interference control, speed, and ease of use that today's laboratories demand. It excels wherever tightened regulatory limits call for the analysis of ultra-low concentrations of toxic metals – even when the sample matrix contains higher amounts of total dissolved solids – and is ideal for routine analyses across environmental, pharmaceutical, food, consumer product testing, and other industrial applications. The instrument features proven technologies from SPECTRO's sister company Nu Instruments, with interface and extractor lens designs based on the flagship multi-collector ICP-MS Sapphire and the Vitesse time-of-flight ICP-MS.

Powerful Analytical Performance

With state-of-the-art technologies such as a high-matrix interface, a gas dilution system, a high-powered LDMOS generator, an efficient collision/reaction cell, and a highly agile quadrupole digital sequencer, the SPECTROGREEN MS delivers ample analytical headroom for relevant routine applications. It easily meets environmental, pharmaceutical, and consumer product standards such as EPA 200.8; CLP ILM 5.3; CLP ISM 2.3; USP 232 and 233; ISO 17294-2; and ISO 8124.

State-of-the-Art Interface and Collision/Reaction Cell

The interface design enables a laminar gas flow that permits direct analysis of solutions with increased levels of total dissolved solids, while preventing deposits and improving stability. SPECTRO's newly developed two-dimensional ion beam deflection system (2D-IDS) efficiently eliminates photons and neutrals and shapes the ion beam for maximum transmission. The compact, self-tuning hexapole collision cell provides simple, reliable interference removal using kinetic energy discrimination (KED), with a low-flow mode that typically uses only 4 mL/min of helium; a reaction cell mode uses a He-H₂ mixture to remove interferences by atom, proton, or charge transfer, with a second gas line for internal mixing. Fast switching between cell modes significantly reduces sample-to-sample times.

Mass Analyzer and Detector

The mass analyzer comprises an RF-only pre-filter to eliminate fringing-field effects, plus a large 200 mm quadrupole with 12 mm molybdenum rods operated via a fully digital 10 kV power supply at 2.4 MHz. This design offers enhanced selectivity combined with a larger beam spot size for better transmission. The advanced, ultra-agile Quadrupole Digital Sequencer (QDS) allows fast, stable switching between different sensitivity levels, enabling analysis of major and trace isotopes in one measurement. A dual-stage electron multiplier detector with an exceptional dynamic range of 10 orders of magnitude enables analysis from sub-ppt to ppm levels without specific setup or tuning, and signal acquisition in spectrum mode reaches a minimum integration time of 100 µs or less per channel.

Built for Maximum Performance and Ease

The space-saving benchtop instrument features corrosion-resistant aluminum and steel construction with direct visibility of and access to all sample introduction components. A three-stage differential vacuum system with two turbomolecular pumps and an external rotary pump is fully automatic and exceptionally service-friendly. The proven SPECTRO LDMOS solid-state generator uses unique, energy-efficient air cooling without an external liquid cooler and stabilizes rapidly, in less than 10 minutes. Users can choose fixed or demountable plasma torches, a dependable gas dilution system handles high-matrix samples without manual dilution, and the optional SPECTRO Intelligent Valve System delivers extremely short sample-to-sample times and fast washout.

Powerfully Simple Software

SPECTRO ICP-MS Analyzer Pro software is fast, customizable, and intuitive, making training, startup, and operation surprisingly simple with automatic instrument optimization and step-by-step method setup. Its advanced flat-file data management stores all versions of a result in a single file, so even with large amounts of data, 100 results can be calculated in less than 60 ms. Sophisticated audit-trail functionality logs all changes, events, messages, and errors in clear text format, making the analysis process fast, efficient, fully transparent, and totally traceable.
